Death Above Life Tour
Tuesday night, Orbit Culture brought their Death Above Life tour to the Fillmore, right outside of Washington, DC. I’ve been a big fan of the band ever since they dropped Descent and stoked to have Niklas on the podcast last year when the band released Death Above Life. So knew that I wanted to make sure I caught the band live when tour dates dropped and I saw they were coming near me.
Finland’s Atlas kicked off the night. I had never heard of Atlas prior to the show. The Fillmore website and Apple Music have the band listed under the “rock” genre and I had no idea what to expect, especially given the nature of the other two bands on the tour package. The band blends pop hooks with metalcore/post hardcore sensibilities and it was a wonderful to set to open the night. I’ve recently not always followed the rule but in general, I always try to get to the show early and see the openers because you never know who you’ll discover. I can’t wait to give their new record, Sunder, a listen!
After a quick stage change, Ov Sulfur took the stage. I had missed Ov Sulfur when they opened the Pain Remains tour a few years back and I’ve picked up both of their records since then. I enjoyed their set. Tons of energy and set really started to amp up the crowd before Orbit Culture.
And then Orbit Culture hit the stage and destroyed! The band’s stage presence was incredible and the set included songs from every release. Early in the set the Niklas talked about all the times they had played the Fillmore before and expressed their gratitude at finally getting to headline the venue. The show seemed celebratory and Orbit Culture’s set was flawless.
Enjoy some photos from the show!
