Embrace Yourself and Express Your Feelings
Yesterday I got to chat with Luke Caley from Sharptone Records band Unpeople. It was an absolutely joyful conversation about making music and just one of those interviews that remind me why I love hosting this podcast!
So last Friday I released an album under the moniker Educated Owls called "Love In Berlin." If you're a fan of post rock you might enjoy it! The album cover is a photo I took of my friends John and Steph in Berlin in 2011.
This week we welcomed Venues back to the podcast for their second appearance, Rob Fish from 108 to chat about his new band, Unsufferable, and new German metalcore band AVRALIZE, who released their debut record, Freaks, last week! I love having a diversity of artists at different stages in their career on the show. It feels like Venues is set to be the next big band from Arising Empire Records. Rob has been in hardcore forever and is finding his footing with a new project, and AVRALIZE is just jumping on the scene. I enjoyed each conversation and all three have released music that is killer. The new Venues record is out today and you should check it out!
This week I have ignored all the new releases in my inbox to just go through my cassette collection. It's been a joy reconnecting with a bunch of albums I love but haven't listened to in ages. I listened to Stavesacre's Friction, which then led me to Absolutes and listening to those two albums got me to do an audio essay about Stavesacre and their discography, which is over on Patreon for members now!
It also inspired me to put together a fun, upbeat mixtape for you guys this Easter weekend. On it we have:
Japanese Breakfast - "Machinist"
Wild Ones - "Dim The Lights"
Alvvays - "In Undertow"
Ratboy - "Elvis Is In The Freezer"
Really From - "Yellow Fever"
Hop Along - "How Simple"
Charly Bliss - "Westermarck"
Land OF Talk - "Loving"
Chvrches - "Get Out"
PVRIS - "St Patrick"
Paramore - "Hard Times"
M83 - "Teen Angst"
Kaki King - "Gay Sons Of Lesbian Mothers"
Petal - "Comfort"
Julien Baker - "Turn Out The Lights"
Enjoy!
