Nothing Is Better Than This
Happy Bandcamp Friday! There's a lot of new music happening in the Bryan Patton camp. Yesterday I released a new Echo Broke Alone track called The Serene Brutality of the Ocean, and you can name your own price and grab that track!
It's now April, which means we're coming up on the one year anniversary of The World Had Been So Beautiful Once, my lent project from 2023. If you don't have that LP yet, check it out!
Last month I released two different projects. If you like dark ambient, doom/drone stuff, you can check out A Room Full of Hummingbird's debut release, Depths Where An Elephant Would Drown on the Something Beautiful Records bandcamp page!
And if you're a fan of post rock, Educated Owls released their debut full-length, Love In Berlin!
Speaking of Educated Owls, if you dig that project, want more music, and want to make a difference, Food Desert Recordings just launched pre-orders for their Know Justice, Know Peace compilation supporting National Bailout, and there's a new Educated Owls song, Fellow Passengers To The Grave, on that comp!
I am having an absolute blast making music right now and for better or for worse, it’s taking a lot of my attention and I’m ignoring getting ahead of editing the podcast because of it. Whoops.
This week we dropped to two episodes a week. I was really busy at the start of the year, which led to me being able to air three episodes a week in March but the calendar just didn’t work that way for April. So hopefully with one less episode a week, I can get ahead on editing and deliver pods earlier for Patreon members and make life less stressful as I leave the country for two weeks in May.
We had two vastly different shows this week! First we welcomed back Jonah Mantranga. When Jonah was first on the podcast in 2022 we spent our time chatting about Tenderwild. This week’s conversation is more of a meandering discussion on creativity and making music. And Jonah gave us some live music at the end of podcast, so it’s worth sticking around to the end!
And today we welcomed Chaney Elaine from House Parties, a pretty new band on Equal Vision Records! We discuss this in the interview, but House Parties sounds like old school Paramore and I mean that in a good way! The band channels everything that made Paramore one of the biggest bands at the time and does it really well! No shade, all respect! Their ep, Side Effects, is a fun time!
How about another playlist for your weekend? This weekend, I’m running the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler in DC and even though it’ll be cold, this is my first race since I had to run a “virtual” Broadstreet 10 Miler in 2020 and I’m excited to be running this race with my wife again (we ran it in 2018 together). So this mix doesn’t really have anything to do with the race, but it is a taste of what I’ve been listening to this week!
Palms - “Mission Sunset”
Isis - “Hall Of The Dead”
Baroness - “Rays Of Pinion”
Kylesa - “Scapegoat”
Deftones - “Gore”
Kowloon Walled City - “Annadale”
Sumac - “The Task”
Mastodon - “The Last Baron”
Enjoy and have a great weekend!
