That's My Driving Force
Happy Friday! Big news for the podcast. As The Story Grows is going to Warped Tour in DC! Not only will I be there to enjoy the festival and take pictures but I will be interviewing bands backstage! So the week of June 15th, there will be one if not two Warped Tour podcast episodes! I’ve started working on scheduling time with bands and am excited to do something new for As The Story Grows and podcast episodes. I really hope this is first of many new opportunities like this!
With Warped Tour and trying to book bands, and this happens occasionally with the podcast in general, is having to prove your platform and outlet is worth a band’s time. And I understand. Bands with limited availability want to get the most bang for their buck. I have been extremely fortunate to work with people who aren’t interested in making me jump through hoops or hit certain markers before talking to certain bands or working with them at all. And that makes have to posture myself in some way to prove myself worthy of a band’s time and attention so much more disheartening.
The joy of hosting As The Story Grows is getting to talk to bands across the globe, from different genres, at different places in their career and popularity and share music I love with people who listen to the show. I’m not chasing clicks or trying to create news. It always comes back to the music and sharing what I love with others.
Monday on the podcast we welcomed Hecate Enthroned frontman Joe Stamps to the podcast! Hecate Enthroned released The Corpse Of A Titan, A Lament Long Buried today on M-Theory Audio! Joe and I had a wonderful conversation around the lyrical themes on the last two records and creating a cohesive vision. The new album is incredible and if you like atmospheric black metal, you should add it to your weekend listening plans!
Wednesday Marc Mifune and Jean-Anael Abau from French post rock band Hanry joined the show. Hanry released What Came From Silence today on Pelagic Records! I had recorded this conversation back in March and it was fun to come back to it and edit the conversation because I had forgotten all that we discussed. Hanry brings more ambient and textured approach to their style of post rock and What Came From Silence is an excellent record!
And today we welcome Christian Liljegren, CJ Grimmark, and Jonatan Samuelsson from Narnia! Narnia’s tenth full-length record, X, is also out today! The guys and I talked about the Swedish metal scene for bands of faith, trying to forge their own path, and how their faith is what continues to drive them to make music.
Monday we have the May Recap episode! I hope everyone has a great weekend!
