The Blueprint For What I Want To Do
Last Thursday I went over to Baltimore to catch Future Palace’s very first US show as they kicked off their North American tour. As soon as the band announced they were headed Stateside, I knew I wanted to hit the tour up. I just hadn’t realized until last night that it was the first night of the tour and so the band’s US live debut. Maria has been on the podcast twice and I love the band’s discography and am stoked for their upcoming release with Century Media!
Half Me, another former podcast guest, kicked off the night. I got to Metro Gallery right before the band took stage. I was completely blown away by their set. The band was heavy as hell and fun live. They were without a doubt the band the crowd was least familiar with that night and that open slot is tough as people are still wandering in. But it was worth it for anyone who showed up early.
Next up was Hawk, who I had never heard of but they seemed to have fans in the audience. I enjoyed the bands post hardcore sound and they started to get the crowd really going and worked up.
Future Palace delivered an incredible set fwith tracks from their previous three records and the new single they just dropped. The band’s gratitude to be in the States and getting to play for us really came through and it seemed like they tried to connect in a different way with an American audience. It was another great night of live music.
We’ve had three really incredible interviews over the last few weeks. Last Friday we had Modern Life Is War frontman Jeff Eaton on the podcast and we broke down the musical direction and lyrical themes on the band’s new record, Life On The Moon.
Wednesday we were joined by Orbit Culture frontman Niklas Karlsson! The new Orbit Culture record, Death Above Life, is out today! Orbit Culture is a metal band on the rise and I was stoked to have the opportunity to chat with Niklas about the band’s past and new record!
And today we welcome Heretoir drummer Nils Groth to the podcast! Heretoir released Solastalgia back on September 19th. Nils and I had a wonderful conversation about losing touch with your local music scene, the depth behind the lyrics and artwork on Solastalgia, and power metal for a little bit at the end of the podcast! Nils also plays drum for power metal band Daedric Shryne and you should check them out as well!
In other news, over the last few months Dan Terry from DFT’s Dungeon and I have been working on a podcast called The Casual Metal Podcast, where each episode we dive into a metal record and talk about. We currently have 5 episodes out now. You can find us YouTube or in audio only format on PodBean!
Have a great weekend!
