One of my favorite benefits from doing this podcast is being able to go to shows and photograph bands! I started taking pictures of bands in high school with a cheap little film camera. It was a fun hobby and a way to remember and catalog various shows I had been to over the years. And that hobby has gotten me some cool gigs in the past and it’s really only over the last two years that I’ve slowly gotten back into taking photos at shows.
The most recent show was The Devil Wears Prada 20th anniversary tour at the Fillmore!
Four of the bands on the bill have been podcasts guests and I was stoked to go and capture the show. Greyhaven opened the show but the information online was incorrect. I saw doors at 5:30 and show at 6:30 but when I walked into the venue right before 6:30, SeeYouSpaceCowboy was setting up and Greyhaven had already played. I caught Greyhaven this summer in Richmond and was looking forward to seeing them again but it was not to be.
SeeYouSpaceCowboy is the lone band on the bill that isn’t a previous podcast guest and the band I was least familiar with. I had picked up the band’s 2024 release, Coup de Grâce, which I love! So it was cool getting to see the band live.
Next up was Like Moths To Flames. This was my second time seeing the band and I was more familiar this go around. Chris is a phenomenal frontman, who demands a lot from the crowd and the crowd was willing to give him what he wanted.
Next up was Silent Planet, a band I love but have never seen live and they did not disappoint. Even though every band is in this metalcore space, each once had it’s own spin on the genre and it didn’t feel like a stale bill where every band is doing variations on a theme.
And lastly The Devil Wears Prada closed the night. This was my second time seeing the band headline the Fillmore and for the second time, I was blown away. It’s pretty crazy to think that Color Decay came out over two years ago. That record blew me away and is a real gem in the band’s discography. I know older fans might not love it but it connected with me in a way a lot of their music hasn’t in the past! And the band did a great job mixing in classics with the new stuff for their set! Below you can see more photos from the night!
